No disciplinary action for Manuel Neuer over rainbow armband

Manuel Neuer will not face any disciplinary action for wearing a rainbow armband during Germany’s Euro 2020 matches, UEFA has confirmed.

UEFA were reportedly looking into whether the armband breached rules regarding on-field political statements but the German national team confirmed that the investigation has been stopped as the armband has been worn for a good cause.

The Germany goalkeeper and captain has worn the armband throughout June in honour of Pride Month.

“UEFA have today shared with the DFB that they have stopped the review of the rainbow captain’s armband worn by
Manuel_Neuer,” Germany’s football team said on social media.

“In a letter, the armband has been assessed as a team symbol for diversity and thus for a ‘good cause.'”

Neuer first wore the armband in a warm-up friendly against Latvia on June 7 and has continued to do so during Germany’s Euro 2020 matches against France and Portugal.
