Munster defeat Edinburgh to advance in Pro14 playoffs

Munster have progressed to the Pro14 play-off semi-final after a 20-16 win over Edinburgh.

Tries from Rhys Marshall and Keith Earls lead Munster to victory with Nathan Fowles replying for the Scots.

Early pressure led to Munster’s first try. With Edinburgh forced to take a defensive lineout and Marshall intercepted Stuart McInally’s throw to power through.

Edinburgh hit back with two Sam Hidalgo-Clyne penalties as Munster took a 7-6 lead into the break.

Earls extended Munster’s lead three minutes after the restart after Simon Zebo unlocked the defence with a kick over the top before finding his teammate with a long pass.

JJ Hanrahan and Hidalgo-Clyne traded penalties before Fowles went over to take Edinburgh back to within a point of their opponents.

A penalty late on secured the victory for Munster, who will play Leinster on May 19.
