Moeen Ali hat-trick wraps up 239-run England win

Spin bowler Moeen Ali took a hat-trick on the final day to lead England to a 239-run win over South Africa in the third test.

England needed to take six wickets on the final day after a profitable final session on Sunday

Toby Roland-Jones got the wickets falling in the morning taking Temba Bavuma (32) and Vernon Philander (0) on two successive balls. That took Roland-Jones to match figures of 8/129 on his debut.

Moeen then took his first wicket of the day when Chris Morris was caught by Ben Stokes.

The hat-trick followed 10 overs later. Moeen finally took Dean Elgar’s wicket for 136 when the ball was edged to Stokes and Stokes made his third catch of the innings to take out Kagiso Rabada for a duck at the end of the 76th over.

Moeen had to wait until the 78th over to complete his hat-trick, bowling Morne Morkel out lbw for a total South Africa score of 252.

England lead the series 2-1 going into the fourth test at Old Trafford. That match starts on Friday with South Africa on the verge of a first series defeat on English soil since 1998.
