Pro14: Leinster claim fourth-straight title with win over Munster

Leinster clinched their fourth successive Pro14 title after defeating Irish rivals Munster 16-6 in Dublin.

A Jack Conan try and 11 points off the boot of Ross Byrne saw Leinster eventually prevail against a resolute Munster defence.

Both teams had lost just two matches in the Conference but it was Leinster who dominated territory throughout.

Byrne and Joey Carbery each kicked two penalties in the first half as the teams went into the break level, but Conan finally breached the Munster defence when he powered his way through from a scrum.

Leinster kept Munster deep in their own half and were six points ahead after 12 minutes, but Munster hit back when Rhys Ruddock gifted Carbery three points after a side-entry to a ruck.

Scott Fardy thought he had touched down for Leinster’s first try in the 27th minute but he was held up by CJ Stander and Gavin Coombes, before Conan’s high tackle on Conor Murray led to Carbery levelling the scores before half time.

Leinster’s breakthrough finally came six minutes into the second half when Conan powered his way through from a five-metre scrum after Hugo Keenan was held up over the line.

Byrne’s final penalty kick was the final score of the game as Leinster’s Pro14 dominance continued.
