Leeds United climb to third after beating Nottingham Forest

Goals from Kemar Roofe and Ezgjan Alioski have given Leeds United a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Roofe headed in from close range before a brilliant long-range shot from Alioski finished off their opponents late on.

Leeds dominated the early stages with Samuel Saiz causing problems down the right wing. He fired wide early on.

Roofe opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. The attacker scored a hat-trick in the EFL Cup during the week and headed in from close range to add one more goal to his season’s tally.

Forest had a penalty appeal turned down on the half-hour mark when Felix Wiedwald collided with Ben Osborn but the referee waved play on.

The home team came out strongly at the start of the second half. Osborn tried to set up Ben Brereton with a through ball but Luke Ayling was on hand to clear.

Daryl Murphy then led a Forest attack but the Leeds defence held firm just yards from goal.

Alioski nearly doubled Leeds’ lead in the 68th minute but Jordan Smith was equal to his shot and Roofe should have done better when his shot was blocked by Joe Worrall.

The striker did score a spectacular second goal with four minutes remaining. He unleashed a shot from outside the area, out of the reach of Smith, which nestled into the bottom left corner of the net to seal the points.
