Nigeria have beaten South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final after a last-minute winner by William Troost-Ekong.

The Udinese defender found space at a corner to finish after Bongani Zungu had cancelled out Samuel Chukwueze’s opener.

South Africa dominated in possession but Nigeria took their chances to set up a semi-final against Ivory Coast or Algeria.

Chukwueze had given Nigeria the lead in the 27th minute when he was first to a rebound to fire home.

The Villarreal midfielder could have doubled the lead before half time after a mazy run but his shot was blocked.

Oghenekaro Etebo then had a chance from a free-kick but Ronwen Williams tipped the ball onto the post.

Zungu levelled the score with 19 minutes remaining when his header went just inside the right post from Percy Tau’s free-kick.

It was Troost-Ekong and Nigeria who triumphed in the end though when the South Africa defence failed to clear a corner and the ball was smashed in from close range.
