Kyle Edmund’s fine form continues with Madrid Open win over David Goffin

Kyle Edmund has reached the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open after a straight-sets win over France’s David Goffin.

The British number one, who beat Novak Djokovic yesterday, came through 6-3 6-3 to set up a tie against Milos Raonic or Denis Shapovalov.

Edmund immediately put his opponent under pressure when he broke in the opening game and lost just three points in four service games to take the first set.

The British number one saved two break points in the first game of the second set before breaking to make it 4-2.

A match point was saved at 2-5 but Edmund served the match out to secure the win in 74 minutes.
