Kyle Edmund to play Novak Djokovic after beating Daniil Medvedev
Kyle Edmund has beaten Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the first round of the Madrid Open.
The world number 22 took just 79 minutes to win 6-4 6-0 and will play Novak Djokovic in the second round on Wednesday.
Edmund saved three break points before taking a 5-4 lead and serving out the opening set.
The British number one lost just 12 points in the second set and sailed to victory, finishing with a love game to secure his place in the second round.
Edmund won his maiden ATP doubles title on Sunday with fellow Brit Cameron Norrie.
