Kyle Edmund shocks Kevin Anderson in Australian Open

Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund has beaten 11th-seed Kevin Anderson in five sets at the Australian Open.

Edmund came from behind twice to win 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-4 and will play Ukraine’s Denis Istomin in the second round.

The 23-year-old battled back from 2-0 down in the decider to win in four hours and three minutes.

With the opening set going to serve throughout, Anderson took the tie-break by winning the final two points from 5-4 up.

Despite Anderson winning two love games off his four service games in the second set, Edmund broke to make it 4-2 and held serve to level.

The world number 49 went behind once again though, saving two break points before being broken late on in the third set.

Edmund broke early in the fourth set, before saving three break points to take the set 6-3.

The comeback was complete in the decider. After going 2-0 down, Edmund broke straight back before going 4-3 up with another break. Edmund held his final two service games to claim victory.
