Kyle Edmund defeats Novak Djokovic at Madrid Open

Kyle Edmund has defeated former world number one Novak Djokovic 6-3 2-6 6-3 in the second round of the Madrid Open.

The result means the British number one is likely to move into the top 20 on Monday for the first time in his career.

Edmund broke in the opening game but Djokovic broke straight back to love. The Brit broke again to make it 3-2 and won the opener 6-3.

Djokovic conceded just five points on his serve to level. Breaks in game 1 and game six saw Djokovic take it 6-2.

Edmund needed to save three successive break points to keep the final set on serve before breaking to make it 5-3 and winning the final game to love.

World number 10 David Goffin will play Edmund in the third round tomorrow.
