Kolkata Knight Riders eased past Chennai Super Kings with 14 balls to spare to move up to third in the Indian Premier League.

After Chennai set a target of 178, their fielding let them down as Kolkata hit a run rate of 10.18 on the way to victory.

Chennai would have gone top of the table with a win and MS Dhoni’s 43 not out helped them on the way to a respectable score of 177.

Four other Chennai batsman scored more than 20 with Faf du Plessis adding 27 off just 15 balls.

Shubman Gill top-scored for Kolkata with 57 not out from 35 balls but it was Dinesh Karthik who really caught the eye.

He notched 45 off 18 balls to boost Kolkata’s run rate and lead them to victory with more than two overs to spare.
