World number nine Johanna Konta came from behind to defeat world number 118 Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6 6-1 6-4 at the Brisbane International.

After defeating Madison Keys yesterday, Konta was broken four times in the first set as her Australian opponent took the lead.

The British number one’s class showed in the second set though, holding serve throughout and breaking twice to level the match.

Konta, not at her best throughout the match, managed to break Tomljanovic in the opening game of the deciding set but then failed to convert five break points. Another break saw Konta serving for the match but the 24-year-old Croatian broke back.

With Konta again serving for the match at 5-4, she needed to hold three break points before completing the victory.

Konta’s preparation for the Australian Open will continue with a quarter-final tie against Ana Konjuh or Elina Svitolina.
