Italy through after strolling past Switzerland

Italy became the first team to qualify for the Euro 2020 knockout rounds after beating Switzerland 3-0.

Manuel Locatelli struck twice in an impressive win for the Azzurri before Ciro Immobile scored late on.

The win puts Italy five points clear of third-placed Switzerland in Group A, and two points ahead of Wales ahead of their meeting on Monday.

The result means that any of the other three teams can still qualify for the second round after Wales’ win over Turkey this afternoon.

Giorgio Chiellini pounced at a corner midway through the first half but the goal was ruled out by the video assistant referee for handball.

Italy did not have to wait for long though. Locatelli scored his first of the night after good work from Domenico Berardi played him in.

The Sassuolo midfielder doubled Italy’s lead after the break when he powered the ball into the bottom right corner from just outside the box.

Switzerland struggled to create many chances but Steven Zuber could have pulled a goal back if not for a fine save by new Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Immobile scored his second goal of the tournament late on when he found the inside of the left post after a top quality dribble.
