Gloucester have finished second in the European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool 3 after a 24-34 loss to group winners Pau.

The Aviva Premiership side will qualify for the quarter-final as one of the top three runners-up but will need to play the tie away from home.

Jeremy Thrush put Gloucester ahead in the 14th minute but the French side went in 13-7 up at halftime after two Colin Slade penalties and Steffon Armitage’s 39th-minute try.

Second-half tries from Frank Halai, Lourens Adriaanse and Daniel Ramsay saw Pau extend their lead, with Gloucester responding through Callum Braley and Jake Polledri.
