Play has been suspended at the French Open due to heavy rain, with Rafael Nadal’s quarter-final against Diego Schwartzman and Marin Cilic’s match against Juan Martin Del Potro still in progress.

Nadal will resume play tomorrow one set down, but on the verge of levelling at 4-6 5-3.

World number 12 Schwartzman was a break up in the second set before a rain delay stopped play. The players came back for just eight minutes but that was enough time for Nadal to break twice to take control of the set.

They will resume tomorrow with Nadal serving for the second set.

Cilic’s quarter-final against Del Potro has been left on a knife-edge at 5-5 in the first-set tie-break.

The first set went to serve throughout, with Cilic saving three break points in both game nine and game 11.

Cilic took a 5-3 lead in the tie-break but Del Potro levelled before rain stopped play.

Del Potro starts on serve when the pair resume tomorrow.
