FA Cup: Coventry shock Stoke, Chelsea and Leicester need replays

Stoke City have been knocked out of the FA Cup after a 2-1 defeat to League Two Coventry City, with manager Mark Hughes sacked after a poor run of results.

Jordan Willis opened the scoring for the Sky Blues before Charlie Adam levelled from the penalty spot.

Jack Grimmer scored the winner with 22 minutes remaining and Hughes was subsequently sacked after a run of five defeats in seven matches in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Leicester City will both need replays if they are to get past lower-division opposition.

The reigning Premier League champions dominated against Championship side Norwich City but were unable to breach Angus Gunn’s net in a goalless draw.

Leicester were lucky to come through their tie at Fleetwood Town with a replay after a goalless draw.

Dubbed the “Vardy Derby”, the striker was left out of the squad against his former club.

Instead, a weakened Leicester side failed to get a single shot on target with the League One club taking the game to their opponents.

Bournemouth needed a 92nd-minute equaliser to avoid defeat against Wigan Athletic.

Will Grigg and an Emerson Hyndman own goal gave the League One club a 2-0 lead inside the opening half-hour.

Lys Mousset pulled a goal back in the second half before Steve Cook’s stoppage-time strike forced a replay.

Manchester City needed to come from behind to beat Burnley 4-1 in the only all-Premier League tie of the day.

Ashley Barnes gave Burnley a half-time lead before two Sergio Aguero goals in three minutes gave City the advantage.

Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva completed the scoring in the closing stages.

Watford proved too strong for Championship high-flyers Bristol City as Andre Carrillo, Troy Deeney and Etienne Capoue found the net in a 3-0 victory, while West Bromwich Albion secured their first victory in 22 games with a 2-0 win at League Two Exeter City thanks to goals from Solomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez.

Southampton beat Fulham by a single goal from James Ward-Prowse and Swansea City played out a goalless draw against Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Championship sides Aston Villa, Brentford and Queens Park Rangers exited the competition at the hands of lower-league opposition.

Keinan Davis gave Villa an early lead against League One Peterborough United but three goals in the final 15 minutes gave the Posh a 3-1 victory.

Jack Marriott levelled before Ryan Tafazolli struck the winner in the 83rd minute. Marriott added a third in stoppage time.

Notts County striker Jon Stead was part of the then-Premier League Sunderland side which lost to then-League One Brentford 12 years ago, and he was finally able to get his revenge when he netted the only goal of the game in the 65th minute to send County through.

Ousseynou Cisse scored the only goal of the game as Milton Keynes Dons overcame QPR.

Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday will need replays after goalless draws against Mansfield Town and Carlisle United respectively.
