Europa League: Rangers, Aberdeen progress, Kilmarnock knocked out

It was a mixed night for Scottish clubs in the Europa League with two teams in action progressing to the second qualifying round.

Rangers and Aberdeen progressed with relative ease but Kilmarnock fell to a shock defeat by Welsh side Connah’s Quay.

Rangers beat Gibraltar side St Joseph’s 6-0 to complete a 10-0 aggregate win.

Joe Aribo opened the scoring in the opening three minutes before an Alfredo Morelos hat-trick.

Jermain Defoe added two more late on to complete the rout.

Aberdeen also progressed after a 4-2 aggregate win against Finnish side RoPS Rovaniemi.

The Dons repeated the 2-1 scoreline from the first leg but needed to come from behind on the night after Tarik Kada’s opener.

Sam Cosgrove scored from the penalty spot to level before half time before Lewis Ferguson netted the winner deep into stoppage time.

Kilmarnock went into the second leg of their tie against Connah’s Quay with a 2-1 lead but fell to a disappointing defeat in Angelo Alessio’s first home game in charge.

Callum Morris opened the scoring in the 50th minute before Stuart Findlay was sent off and Morris added a second from the penalty spot.
