England qualify for Women’s Rugby World Cup final

England are through to the Women’s Rugby World Cup final after a 20-3 win over France.

With the score level at 3-3 at half time, England scored 17 points without reply to confirm their place in the final.

Sarah Bern scored England’s first try on the hour mark before Meg Jones scored with the last play of the game to seal the deal.

New Zealand defeated USA 45-12 in the other semi-final. Portia Woodman scored four tries with Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali, Te Ngata-Aerengamate and Kelly Brazier also crossing.

Ireland and Wales lost their 5th-8th play-off ties against Australia and Canada respectively.

Australia defeated the hosts 36-24 with two late Irish tries from Sophie Spence and Paula Fitzpatrick making the score more respectable.

Canada ran in eight tries on the way on the way to a 52-0 win over Wales.

In the 9th-12th place playoffs, Italy beat Japan 22-0 and Spain despatched Hong Kong 31-7.
