Elite League: Guildford thump Edinburgh, Dundee beat Braehead in shootout

Guildford Flames have beaten Edinburgh Capitals 10-1 at the Spectrum to move to within a point of the top three in the Elite League.

Hat-tricks from Kruise Reddick and Geoff Walker led the Flames to victory against the bottom-placed club, who lost by the same scoreline against Fife Flyers on Boxing Day.

Goals from Ben Campbell, John Dunbar, Rhett Rachinski and Brennan Yadlowski completed the rout with Dylan Anderson scoring Edinburgh’s sole consolation goal on the powerplay during the second period.

In the evening’s other tie, Dundee Stars were surprise shootout winners against Gardiner Conference rivals Braehead Clan.

Goals from Craig Peacock and Brendan Brooks saw Braehead take a 2-0 lead into the third period but Dundee struck back through Gabriel Levesque and Jimmy Jensen to force overtime.

The shootout went to sudden death after Dundee’s Riley Stadel and Braehead’s Brooks scored in the first three shots. Stadel stepped up again to hit the net and secure the two points for the Stars.
