Elina Svitolina is through to her first Grand Slam semi-final after defeating Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova at Wimbledon.

The eighth seed needed 94 minutes to defeat the world number 68 7-5 6-4.

Muchova needed over three hours to despatch world number three Karolina Pliskova yesterday and tiredness may well have been a factor as she was broken six times this afternoon.

The pair exchanged breaks to start the match before Muchova went into a dream 4-1 lead. That was not enough to take the first set though with Svitolina winning five successive games from 5-2 down to take the lead.

Again, Muchova was pegged back in the second set. From 2-0 down, three successive breaks for Svitolina saw her take control at 5-2.

Muchova did get the break to stay in the match and held to force Svitolina to serve for the match for a second time, but this time the Ukrainian made no mistake to take the match.
