Chelsea have won their eighth FA Cup after a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Wembley.

Eden Hazard’s penalty secured Chelsea the Cup in what could prove to be Antonio Conte’s final match in charge after he was brought down by Phil Jones.

Alexis Sanchez had a goal ruled out by the VAR for offside and Thibaut Courtois denied Marcus Rashford.

Paul Pogba headed wide from a corner and, despite heavy United pressure in the closing stages, Chelsea held on to claim victory.

Reaction

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill: “Unbelievable. You can see what it means to us, to the fans and the staff. This was to save our season, we haven’t had a magnificent season by any stretch. We are used to winning, I’m not saying that in an arrogant way.

“We had a lot of defending to do, they pushed us until the very end. We are buzzing. We got the job done.

“This is a dream come true because it is my first trophy win as captain of the club. It is extra special for me. I didn’t play in 2012, from a selfish point of view it is not the same feeling when you have not won it on the pitch.

“We needed to win this for everybody, we are not in control of decisions.”

Eden Hazard: “We tried to defend well. We kept a clean sheet, we scored one goal, it is enough today but if we want to win a lot of games we need to play better because we had to play defensively.

“Now I am just happy. To see the fans celebrate is something we like. We didn’t have a great season but at least we finish with a trophy.”

Man of the match Antonio Rudiger: “It is important we lifted the trophy, especially after we didn’t play a good season.

“Chelsea is about winning titles. Although we had a bad season we still won a trophy. Especially for me, this is my first season and I win a trophy. I am very happy.”

Cesc Fabregas: “It hasn’t been the best of seasons. Sometimes these things happen – look at all these people singing, it’s important to finish on a high.

“It was important to keep it tight. We were compact and disciplined and it was a well deserved victory.”
