Eden Hazard leads Chelsea to victory over Brighton

Chelsea have ended their two-game winless run by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0 at the Amex Stadium.

Eden Hazard scored in each half, with Willian and Victor Moses also finding the net for the Blues.

Chelsea’s opener came when Moses’ cross was diverted into the path of Hazard by Dale Stephens and the Belgian launched the ball into the top right corner from 14 yards.

Willian doubled the lead three minutes later when he combined with Michy Batshuayi and Hazard before firing past Mat Ryan.

Brighton grew into the game after that, though, and could have had a penalty in the 17th minute. Willy Caballero came rushing out his goal and looked to have taken down Ezequiel Schelotto inside the area, but referee Jonathan Moss waved play on.

A Chelsea break could have put them three up inside the first half-hour but Willian’s shot was tipped wide by Ryan.

Cabalerro was forced into a stunning save a few minutes later, stopping Tomer Hemed’s downward header from close range.

On the verge of halftime, Batshuayi directed the ball wide from inside the area.

Davy Propper was inches away from pulling a goal back in the 50th minute with a diving header. A Christian Gross cross was put perfectly into the path of Propper but his powerful header struck the crossbar before bouncing away.

Chelsea were then denied by the woodwork nine minutes later when Willian’s free kick was turned onto the post by Ryan.

Hazard added a third with 13 minutes remaining when he finished off a quick counterattack after Willian’s through ball.

Moses scored his first Premier League goal for over a year in the 88th minute to finish the scoring, breaking through to pick up a chipped through ball before rolling the ball into the bottom right corner.

The win sees Chelsea move up to third in the Premier League table, three points above Liverpool. Brighton could find themselves drawn deeper into the relegation battle if other results this weekend go against them.
