Durham, Essex pick up wins as rain affects T20 Blast

Only two games went ahead in the T20 Blast this evening as rain affected play across the country.

Durham’s match against Northamptonshire was the only game scheduled which played the full 20 overs, with Surrey’s match against Essex lasting 15 overs after a delayed start.

Essex were on fine form to defeat Surrey by 54 runs and Durham beat Northamptonshire by seven runs.

Worcestershire’s vs Warwickshire, Leicestershire vs Lancashire, Yorkshire vs Nottinghamshire and Hampshire vs Sussex were all called off without a ball being bowled, while Glamorgan managed 96 runs in 15.3 overs against Gloucestershire before the match was called off without a result.

Cameron Delport stole the show for Essex with 129 runs from 49 balls and Dan Lawrence posted an unbeaten 57 off 22 balls as they eased to victory over Surrey.

Matthew Quinn took three wickets in the space of four balls as Surrey slipped to 32-4, and Aaron Finch’s 40, Jordan Clark’s 45 and Rory Burns’ 47 not out was not enough to pull Surrey back into the match.

In Durham, D’Arcy Short topscored with 46 before being caught off Graeme Short and Scott Steel added 37 as Durham finished their innings on 148-4.

Adam Rossington’s knock of 47 gave Northamptonshire a chance but a series of single-figure wickets fell. Rob Keogh’s unbeaten 30 took Northamptonshire to within touching distance of their opponents, but the Durham bowling attack of Short and Matty Potts did enough to secure the win for Durham.
