Championship side Dunfermline Athletic have gone top of Scottish League Cup Group H after a 3-2 win over Premiership St Mirren.

The result could prove crucial with both teams set to take on lower league opposition in Albion Rovers, East Kilbride and Edinburgh City and only one guaranteed second-round spot available for the group winners.

Dunfermline took a commanding lead into half time after Ryan Dow scored a debut goal and Andy Ryan netted superbly from the edge of the area, with Tom Beadling adding a third from a rebound to make it 3-0 inside the opening 40 minutes.

St Mirren came back in the second half, though, and Cody Cooke pulled a goal back on the hour mark when his shot was deflected in.

Danny Mullen added a second two minutes later when goalkeeper Ryan Scully failed to claim a corner.

Saints pushed for an equaliser but Tony Andreu fired over and Cooke had a shot blocked.

The result means that four of the six Scottish Premiership sides have failed to win in normal time this weekend.
