Irish champions Dundalk have drawn 0-0 against Latvia’s Riga FC in the first leg of their Champions League first qualifying round.

The result means that an away goal next week will mean that the Latvian champions will need to win the second leg.

Michael Duffy had the best chance for Dundalk in the opening stages but his shot went narrowly over the bar.

Olegs Laizans forced Gary Rogers into a good save at the other end before Joel Bopesu came close to giving Riga an away goal when his shot went inches wide of the left post.

Sean Hoare could have scored late on but his header was well saved by Robert Ozols.

The teams meet again in Latvia next Wednesday.
