Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal sends Everton through in Europa League

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the only goal of the game as Everton beat Slovakian side Ruzomberok 1-0 in the Europa League.

The Toffees took a 1-0 lead into the second leg and were comfortable throughout the second leg.

Calvert-Lewin doubled Everton’s aggregate lead in the 80th minute when he directed the ball into the bottom left corner.

Ruzomberok did have early chances to open the scoring though. Dominik Kruzliak headed over from a corner before Erik Daniel’s shot was saved by Jordan Pickford.

Wayne Rooney’s shot went over the bar and Sandro Ramirez was twice denied by defenders.

Ramirez should have put Everton in front on the verge of half time but blazed the ball over the bar from inside the six-yard box.

Everton dominated the second half but Leighton Baines and Rooney were both unable to hit the target.

Phil Jagielka then rose highest at a corner but Matus Macik kept the ball out.

Calvert-Lewin finally put Everton in front with 10 minutes remaining when he was first to a loose ball to fire the ball into the back of the net.

Ruzomberok needed three goals in the final minutes but never threatened as Everton made safe passage through to the final qualifying round.
