David Wagner has said that Huddersfield Town’s survival is “bigger than promotion” to the Premier League.

The 46-year-old led Huddersfield to promotion through the Championship playoffs last season and the side secured safety with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

“This is an absolute over-achievement. It is bigger than promotion last season. We were predicted as a team that would get relegated by miles. I understood that,” Wagner told reporters.

“We work under circumstances which maybe aren’t even Championship circumstances. But part of our DNA is to try. Togetherness is a big part, we are humble, but we are ambitious.

“I thought the whole time we looked very consistent. We were never in the bottom three apart from one matchday. I always thought it would be tight for sure.”

Huddersfield finish the season by hosting Arsenal on Sunday.
