Championship: Seven goals at Griffin Park, Wolves continue winning start

There were 29 goals scored in the Championship on Saturday afternoon as Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their winning start to the season with a 2-0 win against Derby County.

It was an all-action affair at Griffin Park between Brentford and Nottingham Forest with three goals in the space of five minutes.

John Egan headed in from a corner to give the Bees the lead in the 38th minute, but an Andreas Bouchalakis 20-yarder levelled it. Daryl Murphy then put Forest ahead two minutes before half time. Another Bouchalakis wonder-strike followed in the 47th minute.

Andreas Bjelland pulled a goal back in the 79th minute but Kieran Dowell added a fourth for Forest in the closing stages. Neal Maupay scored his first Bees goal in the 92nd minute but it was too little too late as Forest hung on.

Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 win over Derby County.

Barry Douglas opened the scoring before Ivan Cavaleiro doubled the lead 14 minutes from time.

Two promoted sides met at the Den and it was honours even between Millwall and Bolton Wanderers. George Saville scored the first goal in the 49th minute before Filipe Morais’ equaliser for Bolton 13 minutes later.

Cardiff City won their home game against Aston Villa 3-0. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored in the 21st minute before Junior Hoilett’s tap-in in the second half.

Mendez-Laing added his second goal in the 71st minute to complete the scoring.

At the KCOM Stadium, Hull City defeated Burton Albion 4-1. Abel Hernandez opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Jackson Irvine equalised.

Irvine picked up his second yellow card shortly before the break and Kamil Grosicki gave Hull the lead. Hernandez added two more goals to complete his hat-trick.

Reading’s match against Fulham ended in a stalemate. Liam Kelly gave Reading the lead on the hour mark but Lucas Piazon’s 82nd-minute goal secured a point for Fulham.

Birmingham City took the three points at home to Bristol City. Bobby Reid gave the Robins the lead in the opening minute but goals from Craig Gardner and Jacques Maghoma either side of half time secured the points for Birmingham.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 against Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United played out a goalless draw against Preston North End.
