Celtic thump Rangers to win Scottish Premiership title

Celtic have been crowned Scottish Premiership champions after beating Glasgow rivals Rangers 5-0.

The victory has sealed Celtic’s seventh successive title with three games to spare.

A brace from Odsonne Edouard and goals from James Forrest, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor gave Celtic an unassailable lead before the hour mark, with Rangers failing to deal with heavy Celtic pressure all afternoon.

Celtic attacked from the start and Olivier Ntcham nearly opened the scoring in the second minute. His long-ranger was tipped wide by Jak Alnwick.

Edouard scored his first goal of the afternoon shortly after, turning in a Kieran Tierney cross from seven yards.

The Frenchman doubled Celtic’s lead before half time, firing into the far corner after Graham Dorrans was caught in possession.

Celtic’s victory was wrapped up before half time. Forrest jinked through the Rangers defence before firing past Alnwick to make it three.

A fourth followed straight after the restart. Celtic surged forward before McGregor’s shot was beaten away by Alnwick. Rogic was waiting on the edge of the area though to curl the ball into the net from 20 yards.

The fifth came in the 53rd minute when Edouard’s low cross found McGregor to finish.

It could have been sixth soon after but Alnwick denied Rogic twice following Forrest’s cross.

Jack Hendry then headed wide before Leigh Griffiths sent a shot over the bar.

Rangers did have a muted penalty appeal five minutes from time after James Tavernier went down under Dedryck Boyata’s challenge, but that was waved away by the referee.
