Bristol City needed to come from behind to defeat Millwall 2-1 and keep their Championship playoff dreams alive.

Lee Gregory gave Millwall a half-time lead, but late goals from Jamie Paterson and Famara Diedhiou ensured that Bristol City would move to within a point of the Championship play-off places.

After an opening 40 minutes without a shot on goal, Millwall needed just one chance to open the scoring. Steve Morison flicked a long ball into the path of Lee Gregory who fired past Max O’Leary.

The Robins started the second half strongly, but it was Millwall who came closest to scoring. Shane Ferguson’s cross found Jake Cooper, but his header hit the post.

A Millwall penalty should have put the game to bed with 17 minutes remaining when Gregory was brought down by O’Leary, but the Bristol City keeper saved from Shaun Williams to keep his team’s slim playoff hopes alive.

Paterson fired Bristol City back into the playoff hunt two minutes later from a free-kick.

The turnaround was complete in the 82nd minute when Famara Diedhiou powered the ball into the bottom corner to claim a crucial three points.

Bristol City now sit one point behind Derby County, who play Swansea City on Wednesday.
