Australia tighten grip on Women’s Ashes as England struggle with bat

Australia’s have tightened their hold on the Women’s Ashes trophy after England struggled with the bat on the third day of the Test.

England must win the Test to keep their hopes of retaining the Ashes alive but trail by 221 runs and are still in the first innings going into the final day.

Australia started the day on 341-5 after a rain-affected day two and moved to 420-8 before declaring.

Beth Mooney scored 51 before being caught off Natalie Sciver as Australia’s dominance continued.

England’s innings got off to a horror start when Tammy Beaumont went for a duck in the third over.

Heather Knight and Amy Jones’ partnership pulled England to 80-2 before Knight fell lbw off Sophie Molineux.

Jones eventually went for 64 before Sciver hit an unbeaten 62 to drag England to 199 at the close of play.
