Arsenal hammer Burnley in Arsene Wenger’s final home game

Arsenal turned back the clock to beat Burnley in style in Arsene Wenger’s final home game as manager.

Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette gave Arsenal a two-goal lead at the break before Sead Kolasinac added a third.

An Alex Iwobi goal followed before Aubameyang scored his second as Arsenal won 5-0.

Wenger made seven changes to the team that lost to Atletico Madrid and it was Aubameyang, cup-tied on Thursday, who gave the Gunners the lead in the 14th minute.

Iwobi’s pass found Lacazette who fired the ball across goal for Aubameyang to divert home.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan forced a save from Nick Pope before Lacazette made it two on the verge of halftime. Hector Bellerin’s cross fell to Lacazette to fire into the bottom right corner and double the Gunners’ lead.

Jack Wilshere should have made it three moments after the restart but his shot went over the bar.

It took 50 minutes for the first Burnley chance of note, and Petr Cech reacted quickly to keep out Sam Vokes’ header.

Kolasinac, another change in the Arsenal starting line-up, added a third moments later, powering into the bottom corner after Wilshere’s pass.

Iwobi made it four with 25 minutes to spare after Aubameyang opened up the Burnley defence before cutting back for Iwobi to finish.

It was five shortly after when Aubameyang finished off a delightful passing move to turn in Bellerin’s low cross.

Chances still flowed for Arsenal but shots from Bellerin and Danny Welbeck late on went off target.

It was a perfect send-off for Wenger who leaves the club this summer after 22 years in charge.
