Anna Signeul: ‘Scotland will bounce back’

Scotland Ladies manager Anna Signeul has said that she believed Scotland can recover after losing 6-0 to England in their Euro 2017 opener.

The Scots were making their debut in a major tournament against their arch-rivals, but a Jodie Taylor hat-trick and goals from Ellen White, Jordan Nobbs and Toni Duggan led England to a convincing victory.

“It was a tough debut for us. We played against a very, very good side in England. I would say they will be a contender for this tournament,” Signeul told reporters.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose so many goals but we will work on this and our resilience. It’s not over for us. In three days’ time, we are playing Portugal and that’s the main focus for us now.

“It is difficult when you lose such an early goal. We just need to pick ourselves up from this and learn from it. We will rise again – that’s what Scotland stands for.”

Scotland continue their Group D campaign against Portugal on Sunday.
