Andy Murray took Nick Kyrgios to three sets on his return to injury in the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s Club.

The former world number one appeared to come through unscathed after 11 months out and put in a promising performance to take the world number 21 to a deciding set.

Murray saved two match points but eventually fell 6-2 6-7 (4-7) 5-7.

Kyrgios was not at his best as Murray broke in games six and eight to take the first set.

The Aussie regained focus, though, and the pair shared four breaks before Kyrgios took the second-set tie-break.

Murray did begin too look a little rusty in the third but saved two match points to make it 5-5.

Kyrgios won the next two games to secure the win in two hours and 39 minutes.
