Alvaro Morata on top form as Chelsea beat Everton

Goals from Cesc Fabregas and Alvaro Morata have given Chelsea a 2-0 win against Everton in the Premier League.

Fabregas was set up by Morata in the 27th minute before the striker got his name on the scoresheet with a header into the top left corner before half time.

Morata caused problems for the Everton defence and sent a cross towards Pedro but the winger could only blaze the ball over the bar.

David Luiz then had a chance from a corner but his shot was straight at Jordan Pickford.

Fabregas opened the scoring when he found the net from 12 yards after Morata’s flick on.

With a rare Everton attack, Gylfi Sigurdsson attempted a repeat of Thursday evening’s 50-yarder but this time the ball sailed well wide of the right post.

Chelsea then went two ahead in the 40th minute. Cesar Azpilicueta’s ball into the box was directed plum onto the head of Morata who found the top corner.

Sandro Ramirez had Everton’s best chance of the match after the restart. He rose highest to meet a cross but could only send his header over the bar.

Victor Moses came close to scoring a few minutes later when he jinked through the Everton defence before shooting just wide of the right post.

Pedro then sent his shot wide right from 20 yards before Moses forced Pickford into a save.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin nearly pulled a goal back late on but his shot from the edge of the penalty area skimmed the crossbar.

Thibaut Courtois was finally called into action in the 89th minute to pull off a great save from Idrissa Gueye’s shot.

The result sees Chelsea move up to fifth in the Premier League table.
