Sheffield Wednesday have drawn 0-0 with Cardiff City in the Championship.

Cardiff started the match in the ascendancy. Junior Hoilett caused problems for the Wednesday defence but failed to test goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith.

Yanic Wildschut drew another save from Wildsmith before Kenneth Zohore was stopped one-on-one.

Lucas Joao created Wednesday’s first shot in the 28th minute, dribbling down the left before squaring the ball to Ross Wallace. The striker unleashed a shot from 25 yards but it went a yard over the crossbar.

Jordan Rhodes had a superb chance to give Wednesday the lead in the 42nd minute. He rose highest to meet David Jones free-kick but failed to keep his header down.

Rhodes was central to the Wednesday attack before halftime but his shot was parried by Neil Etheridge and Adam Reach’s rebound went over the bar.

Joao had another chance to open the scoring on the hour when he was put through on goal by Rhodes, but the striker’s shot went wide of the far post.

Wednesday had one final chance to win it in stoppage time but George Boyd failed to hit the target.

The point sees Cardiff reclaim third place in the table after earlier results saw them slip down to fourth. Wednesday remain in 17th.
