England beat Australia to go 2-0 up in ODI series

England have beaten Australia by four wickets to go 2-0 up in their five-game One Day International series.

Australia finished with a score of 270-9 after Aaron Finch became the fastest Australian batsman to reach 10 ODI centuries before being caught by Jason Roy on 106.

Joe Root posted bowling figures of 2-31, taking out captain Steve Smith for 18 and Travis Head for seven as Australia moved to 124-3.

Mitchell Marsh’s wicket for 36 followed, before Finch’s innings finally ended.

The lower order added 67 runs to set England a target of 271.

England’s consistency with the bat led them to victory, with just two batsmen scoring less than 21 runs.

The innings began horribly though, when Roy went for two in just the fourth ball.

Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales’ partnership of 119 put England on the way before Hales went for 57 and Bairstow fell for 60 shortly after.
Root batted for the rest of the innings, partnering Eoin Morgan (21), Jos Buttler (42) and Moeen Ali (1) on the way to 46 not out.

Chris Woakes came on late on to thump 39 runs off 27 balls and finished the match with successive wickets.
