Elite League: Cardiff slip up, Braehead into play-off places

Elite League leaders Cardiff Devils have lost 6-4 to Nottingham Panthers.

Nottingham were four goals up after the first period through goals from Tim Billingsley, Robert Farmer, David Clarke and Raphael Bussieres.

Layne Ulmer pulled a goal back on the powerplay in the second period and Joey Martin’s penalty shot 03:13 into the third made it 4-2.

Clarke’s second goal of the evening restored Nottingham’s three-goal lead and Jeff Brown scored an empty-netter to seal the victory, after Cardiff goals from Sean Bentivoglio and Matthew Myers.

Belfast Giants are now just one point behind Cardiff after back-to-back victories over Coventry Blaze.

Giants won Friday’s game 7-4 before a Darcy Murphy hat-trick led them to a 7-2 win on Saturday.

Dundee Stars mounted a superb comeback to defeat Fife Flyers 7-6 after a shootout.

Fife led 5-2 with 18 minutes remaining but goals from Lukas Nielsen, Jimmy Jensen, Jordan Cownie and Marc-Oliver Mimar put Dundee ahead.

Danick Gauthier forced overtime with a goal 17 seconds from time, but Malcolm Gould scored the crucial penalty shot in the shootout to give Dundee two points.

Braehead Clan came from behind to beat bottom club Edinburgh Capitals 4-3 and move into the final play-off place.

Goals from Denis Trakhanov, Mike Cazzola and Pavel Vorobyev put Edinburgh into a 3-2 lead but Ryan Potulny and Adam Brace scored in the final 11 minutes to secure the points for Braehead.

Mathieu Roy scored twice during Sheffield Steelers 7-3 win against Guildford Flames and Manchester Storm defeated Milton Keynes Lightning 3-1.
