Aberdeen take narrow lead into Europa League second leg

Aberdeen will take a one-goal lead into their Europa League qualifier second leg after beating Cypriot team Apollon Limassol 2-1.

It took just four minutes for Aberdeen to take the lead when Ryan Christie met Gary Mackay-Steven’s cross to head past goalkeeper Bruno Vale

Apollon dominated the start of the second half and equalised on the hour mark. Antonio Jakolis found space in the penalty area before cutting the ball back to left back Jander to finish from close range.

Esteban Sacchetti was sent off with nine minutes remaining after receiving a second yellow for a foul on Christie and Aberdeen took advantage of their man advantage soon after.

Dons captain Graeme Shinnie scored the winner in the 78th minute when he rocketed the ball into the top corner from 20 yards.

The teams will meet again in Cyprus next Thursday.
